China With No Plastic Bags

Not too long ago, my mom just came back from a trip to China. She said in China people carry bags around as shops do not supply plastics bags to carry stuff in it. But if you need a plastic bag, they would charge you for it.

Yesterday i went shopping with my family. I have many of these really nice reusable bags. I took them along with me. I was hoping that my family will not take home extra plastic bags from our shopping spree. I was wrong.

Economy Versus Environment.

I found an interesting article about the war between economics and environment and how it would affect the human population.

Ever since the global warming issue started to become big, there were explosions of ideas of creating bio fuels to solve a big part of global warming. Politicians and government begin to propose ways on how to produce bio fuels. Cutting down more trees to plant more plants which can be used as bio fuels or change the crops grown for consumption into crops for bio fuels.

Aritificial Sweeteners - Aspartame

Remember during the olden days about in the 90's, many people were getting fat and became obese. People blame it on sugar, saying that sugar makes them fat. So scientist found an alternative for sweeteners. They call it Artificial Sweetners where people who are going on diets and people who don't want to get fat should take this 'product'. Here are some artificial sweeteners brands: Nutrasweet, Sweet One, Sunett, Sweet n Low just to name a few.

Earth Day

Earth Day is a day when we humans are supposed to do something good for the Earth. In recent years, on Earth Day, the country would usually set a time or maybe this can occur internationally, and during this time, everyone will switch off their lights for an hour to reduce the usage of electricity. This will then reduce the energy used and thus reducing carbon emission to reduce global warming.

Go Green! The Basics

One of the greenest man on Earth

After going through many environmental articles about how to save the world from destruction, I noticed something quite disturbing.

My friend used to tell me not to listen to people who talk green and sells green things like Al Gore, because they are just people who are trying to do business. They do not care bout the environment actually. It is known that Al Gore's house uses up a lot of electricity, so he is a faker.

Go Vegan! My Opinion.

Many 'green' websites, club and associations now promotes and encourages people to Go Vegan! which means to go vegetarian.

They say that animals are not supposed to be eaten. I am Ok with the idea of animals are not meant to be abused, but this one is a no-no to me.

I know this Green Blog of mine is supposed to be green, so I am supposed to support it, but sorry, I don't find it an intelligent move at all.

To be green, you have to be practical as well.

Water, Could Be Our Next Oil.

75% of the Earth surface is covered with water, only 3% of the water are not salt water, and we can only consume 1% of that water as the 2% is frozen ice and glaciers.

Imagine, how can that little water support the lives of humans on the earth? So it is not surprising that we have a problem. It is a today's problem, and it will be tomorrow's problem if we do not do anything. Water scarcity!

I am sure many of you feels that water scarcity has nothing to do with you. Water scarcity is the next generation's problem, so let them worry about it, don't bug me for their problems!

Kuala Selangor's Fireflies

How it looked during the day. But you won't be able to see any firefly shining bums during the day.

On last Tuesday, my friends and I went to Kuala Selangor, Malaysia, to see their (Kuala Selangor) fireflies. Kuala Selangor has been famous for their fireflies. It is not famous as a kind of food, but it is famous for how they make bushes look like Christmas trees.

I always wanted to go there, but rumours says that the fireflies numbers has decrease already. Some even made it sounded like it has all disappeared. This is due to the building of a dam. This causes the water to rise and destroy a kind of bush at the mangrooves which are the places where the fireflies hang out.

2008, A Whole New World?

Today my mom asked me about my course that I will be doing after I finished my A Levels. Today she found out how long my course will be and that I have made up my mind to study in Malaysia. Well, at least now she knows. For your information, she didn't support me, but i guess she is accepting it now =D

Anyway, Tadah! 2008 is here! And China has planned to ban the usage of plastic bags in supermarkets starting from the middle of this year! Those super markets which do not follow the rule will be taken action. I always know how deadly plastic bags can be to the environment, and i always hope that people can reduce the usage of it, but i never have thought of some one banning it. The idea is big, very big. They encourage people to use reusable bags or cloth bags now and no more giving free plastic bags ( below 250 mm, if i can remember ).

Edexcel Biology Unit Three A Levels

Tomorrow I will be sitting for this subject. I use to think i will like it, as i will learn more about the environment. Yes, i did learn quite some things, more than what i have learned in my secondary school of course but I don't like how it is structured. Look very rigid to me.

We learned a little bit about quite a lot of things about causes, effects and ways to prevent issues such as global warming, deforestation, acid rain and desertification. We also learn about animal modes of nutrition and ecological pyramids.

The thing which i find rigid is that, the questions which they ask, the answers are all around this few things which we have learned. Making it looked like as though the causes of the world environmental problem are based on that few little things when it is actually not! There are so many other causes which we have not learn!
